Agama dan Budaya: Implikasi Pemikiran Raymond Williams Terhadap Kajian Keilmuan Islam dalam Ranah Humaniora

This article discusses the thought of Raymond Williams about culture and its implications for Islamic scientific studies. Thus, the purpose of this research is to find out the relationship between religion and culture as well as the implications of Raymond Williams' thoughts on Islamic science. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach, with the main sources being the books Marxism and Literature and The Long Revolution by Raymond Willams, as well as supporting literature related to the theme. The results of this research analysis show, in his concept of culture, Williams divides culture into two, namely Culture (Big C) and culture (small c). Culture is understood as high culture that can only be accessed by elitists, while culture is understood as everyday culture carried out by non-elitists (ordinary people). The implications of Williams' thinking for Islamic scientific studies are, first, a compromise relationship between culture and religion. Second, the study of religion in anthropocentric-exoteric areas in which there is a community culture in living their lives. Third, the mapping of Islam as a religion in Raymond Williams' two structures: elitist (culture) and non-elitist (culture).

Abstrak
Artikel ini membahas tentang pemikiran Raymond Williams tentang konsep budaya dan implikasinya terhadap kajian keilmuan Islam. Dengan demikian, tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara agama dan budaya serta implikasi pemikiran Raymond Williams terhadap keilmuan Islam. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka, dengan sumber utama berupa buku Marxism and Literature dan The Long Revolution karya Raymond Willams, serta literatur pendukung yang terkait dengan tema. Hasil analisis penelitian ini menunjukkan, dalam konsep budayanya, Williams membagai budaya menjadi dua, yaitu Culture (C Besar) dan culture (c kecil). Culture dipahami sebagai kebudayaan tinggi yang hanya bisa diakses oleh kalangan elitis, sedangkan culture dipahami sebagai kebudayaan sehari-hari yang dijalankan oleh kalangan non-elitis (Masyarakat biasa). Implikasi pemikiran Williams terhadap kajian keilmuan Islam adalah, pertama, relasi kompromistik antara budaya dan agama. Kedua, kajian agama pada wilayah-wilayah antroposentis-eksoterik yang di dalamnya terdapat kebudayaan masyarakat dalam menjalani hidupnya. Ketiga, pemetaan Islam sebagai agama yang berada pada dua struktur milik Raymond Williams: elitis (Culture) sekaligus non-elitis (culture).
